Group 9 consists of two industry subsectors: chemical manufacturing (NAICS 325) and petroleum and coal products manufacturing (NAICS 324). Annual average employment in these subsectors during the period 1990 through 2014 is shown in the following figure:
From 1990 through 2014, some 273,000, or more than one out of every five, of the 1.18 million jobs in the chemical and petroleum product industries were lost. Information on each industry subsector is presented here:
